THE SUBTERRANEANS, A NEW SCIENCE FICTION ILLUSTRATION SERIES BY ANDREW TSAONEW YORK CITY (June 5, 2008)- The Subterraneans is a story written and illustrated by Andrew Tsao. The story is based on the premise of a failed science experiment that tried to fuse animals and robots together. The lab was abandoned and dumped in the ocean after the experiments became uncontrollable. Forty years later, a young adventurer, Dr. Parker, decides to explore the myth and uncovers a magnificent, but deadly discovery.
Inspired by Hollywood movies like The Matrix, Blade Runner and The Island, Andrew wanted to create and explore his own science fiction world. The idea of having an invasion happen from beneath the ocean rather then outer space came from his own scuba diving experience. “My first diving experience was in 2004 off the big island of Hawaii. We’ve all seen the beauty and strangeness in sea life from television and photos, but to experience it first hand was absolutely mind-blowing. I’m a terrible swimmer, so taking the excursion was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. The combination of beauty, my lack of swimming ability and the idea of complete isolation stirred my imagination,” says Andrew. Andrew Tsao graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from Montclair State University. He started Andrew Tsao Studio, a visual effects company located in midtown Manhattan, shortly after graduation. Andrew Tsao Studio has been providing artistic services in the advertising field since 2001. Client work include projects for Mercedes Benz, BMW, Panasonic, Cole Han, Starbucks and Delta.
